Dos Miradas | Laura Dargan + Kate Hooray Osmond

The Miller Gallery is proud to debut "Dos Miradas," a two-person art exhibition showcasing the works of acclaimed artists Laura Dargan and Kate Hooray Osmond. The exhibition presents paintings created during the artists' residency in Jilotepec, Mexico, where the vibrant surroundings and cultural richness catalyzed their distinctive artistic expressions.

"Dos Miradas," meaning "Two Views" in Spanish, captures the complementary yet unique perspectives of the two artists as they translate their experiences in Mexico into vivid and thought-provoking works. The artists draw upon their immersion in the southern desert landscape and their experiences of ancient Toltec history and contemporary festival culture.

We were fortunate to be able to sit with both artists and hear why they were interested in this residency opportunity in the first place.

Dargan: "I really wanted to take this opportunity to challenge myself and my process. Being outside of the daily distractions at my home studio, I really wanted to focus on diving deep into the work. I think I reached that goal, it definitely was a challenge, and it definitely made a difference."

Hooray: "I wanted feel what it was like to be immersed in the Mexican culture of the high desert with blank canvas and see what was to come from that experience."

Hooray states, "…Jilotopec is an amazing, vibrant village, that is very busy. Unpacking and then meeting artists who all bought their own work and questions, it became a very safe space to explore, eat together, chat together, and to be community."

"Dos Miradas" offers a dialogue between the two artists, showcasing their shared experiences while highlighting their distinct creative approaches. The result is a captivating collection that invites viewers to explore the interplay of memory, imagination, and place.
